The Sound Circle

This is an installation i made in in June 2011 with the collaboration of Paolo F. Bragaglia ( www.paolobragaglia.com ) for an italian PA brand called FBT

We used 8 Speakers to form a circle and a microphone+switch in the middle of it
The sound of the visitor is taken by the mic and processed in realtime making it movin and mutate around the visitor

It's quite a simple idea but i've never thought it would be so effective on the user

This is the interface of the patch i made

The black rectangles represent the speakers with a white line indicating the current volume. If you look at my previous posts you'll notice that this is a mod of my "preset morphing" patch.  Indeed i use a list of preset and morph between them to make the sound "move". I can select speed and direction of the sound
At first i did it to work randomly but in the end we decided to give the user a switch for selecting 4 different and determinated fx.
In the right part you can see the input volume and the value+meter for each speaker

Let's see the unlocked!

This is the main part of this patch..  At first i used the *~ object to ramp up and down consequencially the volumes but i was gettin a lot of clicks
I solved the problem using the adsr~ object and set it to form a triangle-like envelope

So in the end this patch was made of: 8 volume envelopes - preset morphing - some processing - a midi in - and an 8 output soundcard

Yay!

Nella notte - In the night patch

Hey! this is gift time!

please help the little girl to get lost in the night..

With this patch you can easily create melodies selecting the root note and the type of scale.. all the notes you are going to write in the grid will stay in the scale desired

You can select the tempo, the time division and the length of the notes too!

This is the patch overview

The core of this patch is this poly sub-patch

If you had not enough, it's possible to send the notes out to any desired midi device (or routing drivers like IAC bus on OSX or MidiYoke on Windows ) just click on "noteout 1" tab and select your output

Yeah i know , that's a hell of a gift.. if you enjoy it comment and let me know!

Please download the patch  HERE

Cheers!

Please note: in this max collective i've used a reverb object called "gigaverb~" that works fine in Osx but i'm not sure if it will work on windows too.. let me know

Preset morphing

This patch shows how to morph between presets. To understand what's goin on,  just click on the big toggle and see the different behaviour of the presets switching

The idea is simple but can be very useful in projects where we need precise transitions between parameters we already stored in the "preset object"

You can download the patch HERE

Enjoy and comment!

Cheers!

Numark Total Control Patch

This patch is very useful to understand how to connect any usb/midi controller to Max Msp

In this very patch i've used the Numark Total control layout to map all the parameters available

The cool thing about this patch is the workaround i've found to map the "endless rotary encoders" or  360 type encoders.. take a look

since the incoming value was fluttering i've noticed that when i went up it gave me a certain range of numbers and going down i had other numbers.. the solution at this point was very simple = "select" object!

I'm currently using this patch in every Lociverba performance

You can download the patch  HERE

Enjoy and comment!

Edit: i re-uploaded the patch since there were 2 little bugs.. thank you Benjamin!

TAP TEMPO PATCH

Let's create a tap tempo!!!!

This is a quite simple patch to start with but i'm sure it will come in handy for someone..

The idea behind is very simple but also a little tricky

Just press on the big bang button a first time then press it a second time and we now have the interval in milliseconds thanks to the fabulous object called "timer"

Once we get the milliseconds interval between the first and the second press, it's very easy for our shiny brain to translate it into Bpm

Ok now we are ready to synchronize our max msp creations with the rest of the world!
You can download the patch Here

Please comment and enjoy!

Lociverba Project

Lociverba is a project i'm currently workin on.  It's a site-specific performance that keeps all the particular aspects of the place where we are playing and lets the place talk for himself.
Litterally the word Lociverba is formed by the latin words "Loci" that means "of the place" and "verba" that means "words"

The following videos were shot in Italy where i live and can give you an idea of what i'm after
